Enquanto as pessoas ficaram julgando a capacidade de Matt Helders, o baterista do Arctic Monkeys, virar ou não um DJ, o inglês continuou fazendo o seu trabalho e chegou a um lugar que muitos produtores de "verdade" sonham em alcançar: escolher suas faixas favoritas de todos os tempos para ser lançada na próxima edição do Late Night Tales.

Após a bem-recebida compilação do Groove Armada a cobrança em torno do novo produtor deve ser ainda maior, porém como o tema das Late Night Tales "uma álbum de compilação de suas músicas favoritas que te inspiraram a tomar a música como profissão", clássicos do rock, hip hop americano e inglês e novos produtores de música eletrônica somam maioria entre a seleção. Passando pela fúria de Stooges e Johnny & The Hurricanes até semi-hits dos álbuns de Modeselektor e Simian Mobile Disco (James Ford é um das maiores influências na música eletrônica de Matt).

A compilação conta com uma faixa cover exclusiva da música "Dreamer" do Living Joy regravada por Matt e produzida por Ross Orton e pelo cantor Nesreen Shah. O vocalista do Arctic Monkeys (e Last Shadow Puppets) participa da faixa de encerramento da coletânea chamada de "A Choice Of Three", que é uma história curta que ele escreveu e narrou para o álbum (veja box).
